In this little, romantic village town of Brienz, resting next to the turquoise Lake Brienz, there is a place called the Brunngasse which has been awarded the most beautiful street in Europe. Brienz can be reached by a 30 minute rail journey from Interlaken Ost – all the Luzern trains stop at Brienz. The houses on this street have delightful wooden carvings that date from the 18th century. This town is commonly known as the “village of carving” because of its long history of carpentry and wood processing – to this day there is still a school for carving and violin making in town.
Other than the street, how about the lake and mountains? I mean come on! Could you ask for a better romantic get away (hint hint, darling). At the top of the Brienzer Rothorn (2350 metres above sea level) there is a wonderful panorama view – accessible by way of the only rack-railway in Switzerland which is regularly powered by steam (think Harry Potter as this seems to be a theme this evening).
Ever been? Where am I going to stay? Help!
