PLACE: Exuma Banks, Big Major Cay
NOTORIOUS: Flying Swimming Pigs
COORDINATES:  24° 11′ 1″ N, 76° 27′ 23″ W
CURRENCY: Bahamian Dollar

Okay, they don’t have wings – but they are wild and they do swim. Just north of Staniel Cay in the Outer Exumas is Big Major Cay. On this island there is a beautiful, private beach that these feral pigs call home. Apparently when you boat in to see these friendly guys, they eagerly jump into the water and swim up to the boat expecting a meal.

If you stay here, it’s possible to boat over from the hotel to see them – looks ridiculously quirky and romantic!

Have you taken the trip to see these little guys? Where did you stay? Let me know.

  1. Hello! I realize this is sort of off-topic but I needed to ask.
Does operating a well-established blog like yours require a massive amount work?
I am brand new to writing a blog however I do write in my journal every day.
I’d like to start a blog so I can share my experience and thoughts online.
Please let me know if you have any kind of recommendations or tips for brand new aspiring blog owners.

    1. Hey there! Starting a blog is all about consistency – which I still struggle with. If you love your topic, you’ll post more. That is my only recommendation. Truly love your content. Thanks for stopping by and asking 🙂

  2. Hi Alyson. Hubby and I stayed at Sandals Emerald Bay in May of 2015. We did a tour that took us to this island and we indeed, did swim with the pigs! It was crazy! We fed them turkey dogs…of course. Lol. There is also another island in the same area that a species of endangered iguanas occupy. They look like little dragons! We fed them red grapes. Hope you get to go if you haven’t already.
