Description

Another Paul Sabu production! Ann Margaret was born April 28, 1941 in Valsjöbyn, Sweden, arrived in New York City in 1946 then settled in Wilmette, Illinois. Taking dance lessons as a child, she graduated to performing on radio shows. She joined a musical group called the Suttletones which led her to Las Vegas and earned the attention of George Burns, who invited her to perform a soft shoe routine on his Christmas show. Variety picked up on her appearance there and declared her a star on the rise. She was signed to RCA Records and they started issuing her recordings in 1961. She has had a very successful career in film with movies like "Pocketful Of Miracles" with Bette Davis, "Bye Bye Birdie" with Dick Van Dyke, "Viva Las Vegas" with Elvis Presley and securing her place in TV history by portraying Ann-Margrock in a 1963 episode of the wildly popular "The Flintstones" animated TV show and in the role of a babysitter, showed her softer side when she sang "The Littlest Lamb" an emotionally tender ballad to Pebbles to get her to sleep. Unsure of how to market her, they placed her in the "female Elvis" category and draped her in Elvis like arrangements, securing her first hit with "I Just Don't Understand" (#17, 1961) that displayed her sex kitten growl that became her trademark. That song made her a one hit wonder, but she continued recording sporadically while she concentrated on her acting career. She famously played Tommy's mother in The Who's "Tommy", with a scene that had her luxuriating in a stream of baked beans that spewed from the television. Around this time, Tina Turner, who appeared as the Acid Queen in the same movie approached her after Ike beat her one last time and Ann Margret took her in until she could get on her feet. When she was ready to do disco, she did it with a seasoned professional disco producer named Paul Sabu, who surrounded her with the dramatic orchestral bombast of "Love Rush" as a one off collaboration that peaked at #8 disco in 1979 that led to her 1980 "Ann-Margret" disco LP. Sabu's technique turned Debbie Jacobs into a disco star when he put together "Don't You Want My Love" and followed it up with a remix of "Hot Hot (Give It All You Got) that hit #1 on the disco chart. "Love Rush" was a disco hit peaking at #8 in 1979. Her voice is deep and growly, perfect for the steamy and sexy song that accentuated her sexual appeal, making her the original MILF (in my opinion) at the age of 38. Proof of that was the photoshopped cover of TV Guide that presented the new, slimmer Oprah's head pasted on the body of Ann Margret from one of her promotional photos from 1979. Copyright was avoided by having an artist pencil draw the body in with appropriate coloration, but it was almost instantly discovered. There are a lot of men who observed that picture of Ann Margret by holding it up with one hand, (to mangle quote Steve Martin). She has kept up her acting career and most recently played a recurring role on "Ray Donovan" in 2014. Ann is also an avid Motorcycle Mama, beginning her love affair with them in the 60's when she appeared in ads for Triumph motorcycles. In 2000, she was thrown off her bike and fractured some of her ribs and a shoulder. But she got better and still rides today. Now that is picture I would like to see, something glamorous by Annie Leibovitz of Ann Margret provocatively posed on a bike, leather jacket.....is it getting hot in here?
