Lastly we have French composer Roland Dyens Libra Sonatine, a work he wrote in 1980, intended to mirror his harrowing experience during a heart bypass. The first movement (India) echoes the heart palpitations and terrors of surgery, with its alien harmonies and irregular rhythms. The second (Largo) is a jazz ballad, but also representation of the anaesthetized post-op Dyens wandering and dreamy. The last (Fuoco) expresses the composers elation and renewed fight for life, and provides a stirring conclusion to this modern classic of the guitar repertoire.
