Description
Lee Eugene Michaels (born Michael Olsen) sings while playing piano, Hammond organ or guitar. This L.A. native's career began with a surf group. A fellow band member, John Barbata was later drummer for the Turtles.
Lee's career reached its zenith in 1971 with an unexpected Hot 100 Top 10 hit, "Do You Know What I Mean". It was however all downhill professionally from there; by the mid-1970s and with several unsuccessful LPs behind him, Lee Michaels went into semi-retirement.
In '88 he opened an L.A. county seafood restaurant that's still on the shore today, along with three others bistros. All have the word Killer in their names.
Featuring just two musicians (plus a friendly off-mike chorus here), the entire "Lee Michaels" album was completed in a single day.
