Description
O fallazzo e ria fortuna - by Robertus de Anglia (fl. 1463–1475)
Translation:
Oh deceiving and evil Fortune
Whose face is sometimes bright and sometimes dark.
You always leave my life deprived of all happiness.
Oh Fortune sad and bitter,
you are stingy with the good part of love.
Everyone learns too late of your folly.
Sometimes the rich man
is made poor,
Sometimes the sad man
is made playful.
He who puts his hope in you
can well do a futile dance;
this is neither fable
nor opinion,
but it is the truth
without lies.
