This vocal group was discovered by Roy Orbison and it was Orbison who brought them to Nashville to record with top session men, such as, Boots Randolph, Bob Moore, Ray Stevens, & Bill Justice. The group recorded for Monument Records, the same recording company that Roy Orbison , was under contract with. Lead vocalist, Virgil Johnson, was a school teacher, and his group, The Velvets, consisted of four of his students, William Solomon, Mark Prince, Robert Thursby, & Clarence Rigsby.
