THE YELLOWJACKETS *FINALE* LAST NIGHT?! OMG! :O
Where do I begin?! Trying to survive the Apocalypse with my daughter, the series "The Last of Us" really resonated with me. The bond between Joel & Ellie was moving. I rooted for them. They had to escape the fungus zombies! I *LOVED* the show. When the series ended I didn't think I'd find another show like that. Then I discovered "Yellowjackets." It was riveting. I was on the edge of my seat every episode. It was primal, disturbing, but also poignant and funny at times. So much raw emotion. I loved the strong, complicated female characters, both their teen and adult incarnations. The performances were incredible. (Melanie Lynskey was in Last Of Us & Yellowjackets! She played a bada$$ in both!) Yellowjackets was another story of survival against insurmountable odds.
I loved the theme song as well. I looked forward to it at the start of every show. I finally decided to attempt my own cover version. I just recorded it this week. And I didn't even REALIZE that it was the FINALE this week?! I thought there would still be a few episodes left! Why only 9 episodes?! & it was HARROWING! I bawled. Aside from the scene itself, when Radiohead's Street Spirit (Fade Out) started to play it gutted me. That song carries so many memories for me. Someone I loved who passed away. Radiohead was his favourite band. The music was another reason to love the show. So many 90s songs transported me back to those times. Every episode had so many layers. Trauma. Humour. Darkness. Resilience. Love.
The finale was a devastating cliffhanger! No spoilers in case you haven't seen it! Now I'm anxiously awaiting Season 3 of Yellowjackets and Season 2 of Last of Us! WHEN WILL IT BE? I've grown attached to these characters!
Anyway, here's me attempting to sing Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren's awesome Yellowjackets theme song "No Return." I got goosebumps when I found out that the season 2 version was sung by ALANIS MORRISSETTE! Queen of 90s music. I can't compete with that. This is just me paying homage to a great song & an extraordinary show. I have to admit some of my rage over the state of the world right now came out as I shouted "No return! No return! No reason!" In many ways it feels like everything is so broken and that we can never go back. The world has been forever changed.
